Color Grading for the 5D MK II

Our latest production is a good example how powerful grading tools in combination can be. This is for a WaterAid spot and I will try to finish it during the next two weeks to show you the final result. For today it is good to know that the limitations of the 5D MK (still no RAW footage of course...) are not really

relevant if you just offer some time! I recommend you to try several adjustments. In this case I used the following tools in post:

 

  • After Effects Tint (42%)
  • Magic Bullet Colorista (go for it, you will love this tool!)
  • Adjustment-Solid with smooth feather mask (inverted) for vignetting; also fast film grain added (a preset you will find here)
  • reduced red in curves adjustment

I also used the MarvelCine Preset for the 5D MK II which is useful to increase the dynamic range.
